In July, 2006 the Scientific Arts Foundation completed a pilot study researching the impact of "The Magic Mirror-Inspired Reflections" solo harp CD on brainwave functions of women undergoing cancer treatments. For more information, visit Pilot Research Results.
According to William Collins, Ph.D., the psychologist and neurotherapist conducting the study, "Stress had made its mark on each person involved in the study. The Scientific Arts Foundation is seeking $30,000 to replicate Dr. Collins' QEEG brainwave pilot study with 20 cancer patients.The goal is to minimize the stressful side effect of 'Chemo Cognitive Disorder' (a term developed by SSM St. Mary's Breast Cancer Support Group in St. Louis, MO as an alternative to 'chemobrain' which describes the frustrating mental confusion that often results from chemotherapy) through the use of specific music (The Magic Mirror) that has already been shown to increase cognitive functioning in four women undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Your donation will help us implement this larger study, publish the findings in a reputable medical journal and make this music available to all cancer patients.
"If we can replicate this in a larger study it will have tremendous impact on cancer, cancer treatment, cancer research, cancer outcome, because what this pilot study is showing is the exact opposite of what you'd expect to see after a regiment of chemotherapy. I want to emphasize this point because it's critical - normal treatment of chemotherapy would result in a decrease in cognitive functions. We are seeing no decrease, we're in fact seeing an increase in cognitive processing. So again, when you're looking at Quantitative EEG, they're actually improving."
